Reiki (pronounced ray-key) means “universal life energy” in Japanese. Reiki is a spiritual holistic healing art form that originated in Japan and was brought to Westerners by Dr. Mikao Usui.
Reiki healing is a natural form of spiritual and holistic healing therapy that uses light or no touch, with the goal of improving the flow and balance of a persons life energies. A trained practitioner places his or hers hands on or above a specific part of the body and transfers what is called “universal life” energy.
Practitioners are trained to detect and alleviate problems of energy flow on the physical, emotional, and spiritual level.
Reiki touch therapy is used in much the same way to achieve similar effects that traditional massage therapy is used—to relieve stress and pain, and to improve the symptoms of various health conditions.
